WEDNESDAY 8-5-13Kereight King hugs the rails at Wimbledon on Wednesday Pride puts in solid round as Phoenix and King flyIRISH trainer Michael O'Donovan, who steered Judical Pride to the final of the 2012 William Hill Derby, expressed himself satisfied with his dog's comeback 28.82sec (normal) effort at Wimbledon's Wednesday trial session.
O'Donovan, whose Laughil George had earlier set the standard for the day with a flying 28.36sec (+10) spin over the 480m course, said of Judicial Pride: "He'll have needed that for sure. He hasn't raced since the final here last year and the important thing was that he came off sound, which he appears to have done. He only clocked 28.73sec when winning in the first round last year, so he's in a similar place this time around.
"Laughil George has gone exceptionally well, but that's the sort of dog he is. He doesn't always get so much luck in his races, but he's a fast sort with a clear. I was particularly pleased with my other dog Stonepark Crash. He showed lots of early and ran the track well."
There was keen interest in the latter part of the Plough Lane session, with the two-bend return to the track of Paul Young's Bubbly Phoenix (off since Juvenile night in March), while Irish trainer Pat Curtin had sprints booked for three of his Wimbledon team.
And there was plenty of cheer in both camps as Bubbly Phoenix (15.91sec, normal) and Kereight King (15.96sec) both broke the 16 second barrier.

Many Are Called: impressive Sheffield winners misses Wimbledon Owner rules Many Are Called out of Derby MANY ARE CALLED, as low as 33-1 in the betting for the William Hill Derby, will not run in the Classic after discussion between owner Trevor Burfitt and trainer Barrie Draper.
Many Are Called has made an impressive start to his career, last seen winning on Sheffield's Sky meeting on Tuesday, but Burfitt says he thinks the dog is too inexperienced for the Classic.
"He's only had seven runS in his life, has won three of his four in England, and is potentially the best dog I've ever owned. But we've been taking our time getting him right and don't want to rush him into something like the Derby. Also I don't want people losing money on a dog that won't run.
"Barrie agrees with me that he's too inexperienced for Wimbledon, so we'll look for smaller competitions, perhaps one at Monmore. "I like to look after my dogs so they don't get burnt out too early, that way you can still enjoy them racing when they're four or more."

I've not been in the dogs that long, certainly not this time last year, so was wondering if anyone at BV ever organised a day out to the William Hill Derby? A mini bus or something?

Shaneboy Alley: solid Wimbledon trial McNairs happy with their Derby team WILLIAM HILL Derby fever has certainly gripped the small but select Liz McNair kennel with preparations in hand for all six of the greyhounds currently in her care to take their chance in the ÂŁ150,000 Classic starting in less than three weeks time.
Speaking yesterday after King Nicky (28.59sec) and King Bradley (28.65sec) had landed trial stakes over the 480m course on Saturday following Arc winner Shaneboy Alley’s 28.51sec best-of-session pre-meeting trial, trainer’s husband Rab McNair said: “The dogs really seem to be coming right at the right time and I’ve been saying for a while now this is the best team we’ve had going into a Derby. “I was pleased with Shaneboy Alley as I’d been worried about him going over the 480m beforehand. He’d not done a lot since the Arc and would have needed it but he’s gone really well.”
In that trial, Shaneboy Alley made all, clocking a 4.74sec sectional, to beat Charlie Lister’s Golden Wonder by three and a half lengths, while it was the same trainers involved in the top trial stakes with McNair’s King Bradley chopping off Lister’s challenging Alien Planet at the third bend to prevail by half a length at odds of 8-1 as the outsider of the four-runner field.
“Both Bradley and Nicky seem to love Wimbledon and can always be competitive round there,” added McNair, “even when they are in with the very best you feel you have a chance.
“I picked up seven entry forms on Saturday – one more than we need at the moment just in case someone sends us another! – so it looks as though the whole kennel is going in. That’s the three who ran on Saturday [McNair’s Tulligoline finished third behind the Richard Rees-trained 28.87sec winner Zoos Caprice in another trial stakes], Shaneboy Alley, Shaneboy Spencer and Skate On.

Norah McEllistrim is aiming for another big run in the DerbyMcEllistrim aiming for Derby glory with Ferdia NORAH McELLISTRIM, who sent out a Derby finalist in 2011 with Cloheena Cash, is aiming to stage a repeat or even better in this year's ÂŁ150,000 William Hill-sponsored Classic following the purchase of Ferdia Oscar by the Norah Mac Racing Club.
Ferdia Oscar, an August 2010 whelp, competed in last year's Irish Derby and has three wins in Ireland. Club spokesman Gary Maunders said: "The dog has good early pace and is a strong runner off the last bend, and Norah feels Wimbledon will suit him.
"The plan to give him a sprint solo at Wimbledon this week. His addition takes the Club strength to seven racing dogs, and new members are welcome to join up and enjoy the fun."
Wimbledon yesterday had around 50 names in the book for tomorrow's trial session which will be headlined by an appearance for ante-post favourite Ballymac Eske, winner of the Scottish Derby at Shawfield two Saturdays ago and before that the Racing Post Juvenile over the Derby 480m course.
Draper also sends down Golden Sprint winner Farloe Barracuda and Fire Height Spec from his Rotherham base, while other notables booked in include top Irish star Ballymac Vic, Isabels Boy, Jaytee Hellcat and Shaneboy Alley (sprint).

Farloe Barracuda is among the star names in action at Wimbledon All eyes on super Eske at Wimbledon trials sessionBALLYMAC ESKE is the headline-grabbing name at Wednesday’s pre-William Hill Derby trials session at Wimbledon as interest in the competitions moves up considerably with the deadline for entries just seven days away.
Barrie Draper’s ace is joined by kennelmates Farloe Barracuda and Fire Height Spec.
However, there are also plenty of other interesting names on the trials sheet including top Irish raider Ballymac Vic, Arc champion Shaneboy Alley and Oaks runner-up Skate On (all sprints).
Others to catch the eye are Bittles Bar, Fridays Shane, Isabels Boy, Jaytee Hellcat, Paradise Martini, Screen Critic and Taranis Rex. Draper is back on Saturday with Eden Star.
The latter, along with kennelmates Ballymac Eske and Farloe Warhawk, is entitled to free entry as a winner of one of six British events for which Wimbledon is inviting connections to the Derby.

The P J Fahy trained Tyrur Sugar Ray is quoted at 50-1 with Coral and he is as low as 20/1 with the sponsors W Hills for this years English Derby.
If this very good greyhound does make the trip over from Ireland then I'm sure his odds will tumble.

Ballymac Vic: ran an impressive 16.04 solo at Wimbledon on Wednesday Eske trial pleases as do Martini, Hellcat and Vic BALLYMAC ESKE pleased connections with a 28.39sec spin at Wimbledon on Wednesday, breaking well and railing like the proverbial cat at the first bend.
The track had looked to have slowed by the time of his trial, the seventeenth in a long session, and joint fastest were earlier runs from Craig Dawson's Paradise Martini (trial 2) with 28.34sec (went well), the same Paul Young's Jaytee Hellcat in trial six, a solo.
Jaytee Hellcat, after checking slightly at the first bend, took off down the back and looked very much at home.
Kennelmate Teejays Bluehawk won trial 20 in 28.64sec, but an eye-catcher was Kevin Hutton's Screen Critic in the second last trial 24, he clocked 28.36sec.
Irish star Ballymac Vic looked the real deal, clocking 16.04sec in a sprint. He trials again Saturday.
William Hill kept Ballymac Eske as their 5-1 favourite, and Ballymac Vic remains a 12-1 chance. But they shortened Paradise Martini (from 50s) and Jaytee Hellcat (from 66-1) both into 40-1, but were most impressed of all by Screen Critic, who is now a 33-1 chance (from 50s).
They eased Farloe Barracuda to 40-1 (from 33s), and Isabels Boys to 33-1 (from 25s).
Trevor Draper said of Farloe Barracuda: "He missed it first time on these traps, but showed excellent early. That's his first. proper four bend run for a long time and he will improve for it." 43 trials Wednesday morning, trial by trial info
