Eden Star: 28.55 trial before racing Saturday, one spot off Ballymac Vic Derby latest and trials before racing Saturday BALLYMAC VIC was fastest of the 18 William Hill Derby hopefuls that trialled before racing on Saturday night at Wimbledon, but only by one spot compared to Barrie Draper's Eden Star.
Ballymac Vic clocked 28.54sec (sectional 4.77), Eden Star 28.55sec (4.82sec). Fastest sectional was the 4.73 from Charlie Lister's Sidaz Jack, who went on to clock 28.88sec. The track looked markedly slower than Friday night.
Liam Dowling, owner/breeder/trainer of Ballymac Vic, dashing off to catch the ferry home to Ireland, confirmed: "He will run in the Derby. We've been pleased with both his trials, and he seems to be both coming away and running the track well. I thought he might have a cramped a bit tonight, but it will have done him the power of good - and he won't run again now until the first round. We will probably return a couple of days beforehand."
The Drapers were also thrilled with the run of Eden Star, Barrie saying: "He looked back to his best and must not be underestimated."
See Monday's Racing Post for a Derby Countdown piece on Eden Star.
Wimbledon now have 65 names in the book for the William Hill Derby - which closes to entries at noon on Wednesday.
It seems reasonable to expect a similar number of nominations to emerge in these final few days, so the field is likely to end up at around 130-140.
Graham Holland is the latest Irish trainer to change tack about coming for the Classic - and he is expected to trial a three or four runners next week, including Holborn Junior, an unlucky elimination from the semis of the Red Mills Produce at Clonmel.
Wimbledon is already full for trials before racing next Friday and Saturday; places for Wednesday's session may still be secured by ringing first thing Monday morning.
All run in tonight's six trial stakes; later non-runner 9.45pm Clash Paddymac, withdrawn lame, four runner race, traps 2 and 5 vacant.======================================================================================================== Trials before racing Saturday May 18 trial 1 2 Sidaz Jack (Lister) 1st 4.73 fast away, always led, rails to mid, wide fourth 28.88sec three and three quarters, one length 4 Bower Jerry (Rosney) 2nd 5.04 slow away, rails first 6 King Bradley (McNair) 3rd 5.05 slow away, crowded first trial 2 1 Westmead Bertie (Savva) 3rd 4.98 slow away, bumped second 3 Ardkill Star (Cahill) 1st 4.87 crowded first, rails second, led run in short head, a length and a half 28.97sec 6 Any Dak (Cahill) 2nd 4.82 led to run in, cut in first, wide fourth trial 3 1 Priceless Pilot (Hennessy, Ire) 2nd 4.98 slow away, middle to wide 4 Ballymac Vic (Dowling, Ire) 1st 4.77 fast away, always led, middle 28.54sec three lengths trial 4 2 Golden Wonder (Lister) 1st 4.86 fast away, rails straights, middle first, wide fourth 28.88sec threequarters 4 Hather George (Lister) 2nd 4.96 slow away, rails to mid, ran on trial 5 2 Glenpadden Post (Draper) 2nd 5.07 slow away, rails to middle 4 Eden Star (Draper) 1st 4.82 always led, rails to mid, wide fourth 28.55sec five and a half lengths trial 6 2 Sigma Five (Jim Reynolds) 2nd 4.97 mod away, crowded first, checked second, ran on 4 Borna Monty (Reynolds) 1st 4.93 always led, cut in first, wide fourth, 29.27sec a length and a quarter and two lengths 6 King Nicky (McNair) 3rd 5.00 slow away, crowded first and second, wide fourth trial 7 1 Newinn Rocket (Rosney) 2nd 4.87 early pace, soon led to third, rails to mid 4 Loughteen Blanco (Cahill) 3rd 4.87 challenged to first, crowded first and second 6 Islas Scolari (Cahill) 1st 4.93 mod away, crowded first, wide, led third 28.80sec three lengths two and three quarters

Gloom for Wimbledon trainer Paul Donovan over Kisses For ClodaKisses For Cloda sadly misses Derby with injury KISSES FOR CLODA misses the William Hill Derby after sustaining a hock injury.
His dejected trainer Paul Donovan said on Sunday: "On Friday night we were ecstastic when he did a 28.19sec trial, but that didn't last long.
"He was a bit sore later, and now there's no doubt, this morning the hock is definitely swollen - he goes for an x-ray on Monday. It's not clear the extent of the problem, he is a young dog and should be able to come back, but what is certain is that he can't run in the Derby."
A finalist in March's Kirby Puppy Memorial at Limerick, Ireland's richest puppy event, he is named after young Clodagh Butler; the Butler family had sent him to Donovan for a tilt at the Derby.
He had impressed through the Kirby Memorial, and his trials at Wimbledon stamped him as something special.

Monday Column: Britain Rocks with talent too!BALLYMAC ESKE as he romps the Racing Post Juvenile
IF you build it, they will come. Well we are all still waiting news of the long-term prospects of any Wimbledon redevelopment, whether that be by Paschal Taggart and a greyhound stadium or otherwise, but William Hill’s dangling of a £150,000 Derby carrot has certainly got greyhound folk flocking to Plough Lane.
The Irish, in particular, have risen to the challenge and barely a day goes by without another leading handler throwing his hat into the ring Graham Holland, English by birth but now established in Ireland, just the latest.
Indeed, you could be forgiven for thinking it is Ballymac Eske (pictured above) versus a whole country if you look at the ante-post lists. Barrie Draper’s superstar still stands in majestic single-figure isolation at the head of the market but the might of Ireland is stacked up behind him.
Two winners and a second for Paul Hennessy in Saturday’s final batch of trial stakes might also been seen as a portent of what’s to come, but the meeting also served as a timely reminder that Britain has talent too.
Firstly the fastest time of the night came from David Mullins’ Bonamassa Rocks in the opener as he came home more than two lengths to the good of Hennessy’s slow-starting Money Talks.
Mullins has never hidden how highly he rates the home-bred and during the week told me that he was not concerned with a trial time he had recorded at Wimbledon last week, more that the performance was good on the eye – with going conditions traditionally showing subtle fluctuations race-by-race at the track these days that is probably a good point to bear in mind going forward . .
