Interesting thread on another site regarding dogs not having acess to water in kennels prior to racing , which could be a good few hours. Anybody know BV stance on this?

I don't think water is allowed in kennels pre-race 'JC' under GBGB Rules Of Racing.
I know after they have run there allowed plenty of water..
Most trainers I know in this sort of weather were having will give there greyhounds plenty of fluids before they present there greyhounds for weighing in.

This is totally unacceptable in my eyes, some dogs will be caged for over 4 hours. Going for so long with no access to water is surely a welfare issue. Maybe the kenneling times need to be looked at,but something needs doing and fast!

I thought this was the case but in this weather common sense should prevail..if a dogs in the last race he or she could be without water for four our five hours. lets hope at the least the dogs get a hose pipe on their bellies before the race' I am reluctant to take my dogs out in this and when I do the bitch makes straight for the river and lays in it. and she aint expected to run 470 flat out.

'JC' Greyhound track kennels racing under GBGB rules have air conditioning and having been in the Belle Vue kennels recently I can assure the system they have in place these days at Belle Vue is first class both in the Summer months and Winter.
Like I have already stated above all trainers these days make sure the greyhounds in there care get plenty of fluids in to there greyhounds before and after racing.

I understand that jim but cannot see a good reason in the weather why the rules cannot be eased, I to have the luxury of air conditioning but have still gone through four cases in the last couple of days..

John you can't allow a racing greyhound to have access to any water/fluids just before it races..
If this practice were permitted then I'm afraid it could/would get out of hand!
In the past I've trained by own greyhounds both under rules and on the independent tracks and I don't see a problem never have done with kennelling greyhounds before they race.
Like I've already stated above if you get plenty of fluids into them and then after they have race then they should be OK It's all down to care and attention of the trainer.
