I wonder what would happen if one of our long established trainers decided to call time.
It's a well known fact that all greyhounds trainers up and down the country are finding the going tough these days and from what I've heard in the last few weeks all is not well on the trainers front down at Belle Vue.
I'm not trying to stir anything up but in the past it was easy to replace trainers at Belle Vue but I'm afraid these days there not many out there waiting to come on to what was once known as The North's Leading Premier Greyhound Track.

I bet if you speak to all the trainers at BV I bet they would all say they have dogs sat on beds without runs every week just put the thur night back on with handicap races,2.80,5.90,670 then we all will be happy ,then I might buy some more dogs to put on BV but there is no point at minute just to sit on there beds

By knocking one race off on a Friday evening saves the GRA/BV LOCAL MANAGEMENT in the region of £10,000 per year.
This figure includes prize-money and trainers payments.
NOW THAT'S WHAT YOU CALL DOING THE MATHS....

Dont you need to take into account the lost tote revenue from the missing race to get a true picture of their savings

just a thought, why not make the last race a cartoon race, most of the herberts that stand near me would be too drunk to notice. there would be no prize money, no payments to the trainers, tote would get there money, bookies would get there money, and I would be long gone.[hope the raceing office don't read this it was just a thought].

Dont you need to take into account the lost tote revenue from the missing race to get a true picture of their savings Indeed you do Skippy - even if only £1k was bet on the tote - which would be very low for a Friday night - then the track would make over £15k in the year.

LOOK AT THE END OF THE DAY IT'S MAKE NO REAL DIFFERANCE HOW MANY RACES ARE STAGED ON EITHER THE FRIDAY OR SATURDAY RACE-CARDS AT THE ZOO..
THERE IS ONLY SO MUCH MONEY TO GO ROUND..
I WAS TALKING WITH A CHAP WHO USE TO GO TO SHEFFIELD QUITE A LOT AND WHEN THEY STARTED HAVING 16 RACE MEETINGS.
AT THE END OF THE FIRST YEAR THE TRACK MADE VERY LITTLE EXTRA PROFIT FROM INCREASING THE MEETINGA AND WHAT HAPPENED WAS PEOPLE/PATRONS ONLY SPENT WHAT THEY CAN AFFORD AND BE IT A 10,11,12,14 or even 14 RACE MEETING THE MAJOIRTY OF PEOPLE DON'T BET ON EACH EVENT BUT WHAT THEY DO DO IS SPEND MONEY WHILST THERE AT THE TRACK ON THERE NIGHT OUT.
IT'S FALSE ECOMANY IN MY BOOK...
BUT THAT'S MY TAKE ON IT OF COURSE EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO THERE VIEW ON THESE THINGS...

The difference is, Jimmy, that the Sheffield tote takes a fraction of Belle Vue's turnover. I was there the other Tuesday and my £2 F/C 3-field caused those selections to move from not appearing in the top ten forecasts to being the top five.
Had the 3 won the race I would have been most annoyed - I'm not sure if I mean that - but anyway it wasn't a problem because it finished last.
