How come the 'lack' of dogs doesn't affect the BAGS? Contract or not, surely if there is a lack there is a lack and we shouldn't lose Friday races for the sake of the BAGS contract.

it is purely the way to ensure a new trainer is appointed.the illusion of a shortage will annually present its self as the injuries list grows.[for whatever reasons]I COULD GO ON BUT I THINK YOU ALREADY GET THE PICTURE.
just to quantify this statement.
as a kennels we have 49 dogs available.we have 14 runners today.6 on fri.so that leaves 29 dogs.there is no way they will all get a run sat- sunday.so you tell me where the shortage is.if this is our kennel.whats the true picture.

To be fair to the Racing Office it's not quite as simple as Benny is making out.

For example if there are 21 A1 dogs available to run in a week then 3 of them are going to miss out. If there are 12 railers, 3 middles and 3 wides in a particular grade then it's unlikely that 3 races will be framed from those dogs because there would be uproar when railers are placed in the 4 box.

the point i am trying  to make is that there are more dogs available to run from our kennels,then it should be that there are dogs available from other kennels.if this is the case surely grades can be accomadated with numbers.as is the case with hurdlers.etc etc.

I just tried to give examples of where the number of dogs available is not an absolute guide to the amount of races you can put on. Ignoring the odd open race the track needs 312 dogs per week if they are all to have one run. I remember seeing a guideline from an experienced racing manager (it may even have been Bob Rowe) that you need at least 20% on top of that minimum requirement to allow you the flexibility to frame the necessary races.

In other words 375 dogs would be a appropriate number for successfully putting on 52 races per week with no dogs running twice. Do we have that many on the strength?

I myself have suffered occasionally from dogs not being on the card when others in the same grade and seeding have run twice. Each time I have pointed it out to the racing office there has been a good reason for them not running (except once when the dog's card was "in the wrong pile").

If you have the same situation with some of your dogs I would raise the matter with the RO and get an explanation.
