ANTE-POST favourite King Drake was fastest in the opening round of the BGBF British Bred Derby over 500m at Sheffield on Tuesday.
Liz McNairβs dog held Houston Main by a half length in 28.95sec (going normal), completing a double after kennelmate King Louis took the previous heat four in 29.07sec.
Sean Parkerβs Barnside Luther won the last eliminator in 28.98sec, joint next fastest with Patricia Cowdrillβs Elderberry Sky, who clocked the same time in heat two.
There was a surprise in a messy opener where odds-on Aero Rackitup went out. Jaguar Blake got home by a length after a bunched finish in 29.70sec.
Kevin Huttonβs Screen Dancer took heat three in 29.08sec, kicking on off the last turn.
The event continues over the next two Tuesdays, live on RPGTV, with the eventual winner receiving Β£6,500 (Β£400 to the breeder).
