bloody hell somebody has a good memory. ambrose by a mile. madness was a good sort and we have had many sprinters.but he was one of the tops but noble lox same time was better overall. ambrose though beat many dogs that cost thousands. and different eras different standards. and levels. we have been lucky to have had some brilliant dogs. never suited a lot of people but we had usually beat them anyway, and it generated a lot of jealousy. We are all getting old ' benny'
It just goes to show how people remember greyhounds from years gone by.

TAKEN FROM THE GREYHOUND STAR WEBSITE. READERS LETTERS.. greyhoundstar.co.uk/readers-letters-34/Czeching on Ambrose – Really! “Members of the Greyhound Forum were disappointed to learn of Ambrose’s background and of his injuries whilst racing, which appear to have been recurring.
It has now been confirmed that Ambrose is scheduled for/ already resident in the Czech Republic where he is to be put to stud.
Regrettably there are currently insufficient good homes for all retired greyhounds in the U.K., nevertheless, the Forum members have expressed their concern to GBGB, for the long term welfare of Ambrose. They have asked for a 3, 6month and one year report on his health and welfare. In addition the Forum will be reviewing, once again, the terms of Rule 18, so that the long term care of all retiring greyhounds can be better monitored.
Clarissa Baldwin – Chairman Greyhound Forum
We have dealt with Greyhound Forum over many years, and generally have great respect for their ethos and integrity but I cannot help feel that they have lost the plot here. On what possible grounds can they have any issue with a retired greyhound going to the Czech Republic?
Over a period of years I have met a number of hugely enthusiastic Czech greyhound supporters. They race various breeds in an amateur way, and I would anticipate that should Ambrose get some matings, they are as likely to be cross breeds as anything.
I have made several visits to Continental Europe to see their racing, and it is so refreshing to see people travel great distances to race their various breeds for no prize money, with no betting involvement, just the joy of seeing their animals race. Whippets, Afghans, you name it.
Not for the first time, I feel the Greyhound Forum is trying to appease anti-greyhound lunatics with a disingenuous agenda. Which nations exactly do you have an issue with? France, Germany? Or is it the Czechs in particular, given their history of what!!!! Are there any other nations that you have issues with? Or maybe you think we should give a dog a new home but retain a right to go and check on it. Do Dogs Trust or Battersea do that with dogs they have re-homed? Well bugger off then and treat us with some respect – Ed

TAKEN FROM THE GREYHOUND STAR FRIDAY 26-6-20:::: greyhoundstar.co.uk/czech-prejudice-greyhound-forum
CZECH YOUR PREJUDICE – GREYHOUND FORUM!Greyhound owner and enthusiast Rich Hassall has reacted strongly to the Greyhound Forum letter published yesterday questioning the wisdom of sending ex-open racer Ballymac Ambrose to the Czech Republic.
Rich said: “As an Englishman (and greyhound owner of 25 years) who has been happily living in the Czech Republic for the past six years, I was both amused and disgusted by the statements from the greyhound forum regarding them being so terrified Ballymac Ambrose was on his way out here
“I’m sure they think we are living in mud huts and can barely feed ourselves let alone our dogs!. Yet in a country of over 10 million we have seen off covid with 300 deaths and are already back to normal due to our proactive lockdown.
“The country had almost zero national debt and boasts one of the best quality of living worldwide. The guy who now has Ambrose is a lifelong greyhound man who is head of the Czech greyhound federation known all across Europe add to that he is personal friends with Liam Dowling and owns several other Ballymac prefix runners.
“The whole family are greyhound and whippet mad with his daughter working many summers in the U.K. at racing kennels. This dog is most defiantly one of the very lucky ones the greyhound forum should be throwing a party FFS ! I think they should even consider an apology!!!
“I probably should “Czech” with the forum if it’s okay for me to bring my own greyhound over to save them in worrying future . I’ll be delighted to update the greyhoundstar going forward with news of Euro racing and the new track at Kincsem Park in Budapest”

and he paid top money for the dog.i had made my checks on welfare etc.and had reassurance from many top greyhound people. the anti greyhound fraternity, give us more derision than we deserve.ALL our dogs are in terrific condition.at any time they can book a time to visit and to check our standards. we above all other trainers have and don't hide anything. the RSPCA, often examine our kennels.so do the gbgb I would ask the caged to contact us.BECAUSE
this may assure them that we are always innocent of there charges,.SO TAKE US UP ON OUR OFFER. OR STOP COMPLAINING.but then again they would have no news. and everyone is now aware of its FAKE NEWS.

This dog has caught the imagination of the public, something which a Belle due dog hasn't done for a very long time. It would have been amazing to see it run in the Derby but it wasn't to be. Success always brings jealousy but I'm sure the majority have enjoyed the ride. Haters hate but purists will always give credit even if it goes against the grain. Some folk struggle to let go of a dream and it looks likely you as owner/trainer and Kevin also have made the correct decision at the correct time. It's been a pleasure and somehow seems strangely ironic that the best dog that the track has had in years will be the one that is etched in a lot of people's memories as the final curtain is brought down on the greatest show in Manchester.
