Team Janssens land over 86-1 Kent Derby forecast!KILARA LION (7-1) produced a brilliant front-running display to lead home kennelmate Lenson Whelan in the Β£7,500 Ladbrokes Kent Derby final over 480m at Central Park on Sunday as Patrick Janssens took another giant stride towards a first Trainer of the Year title, writes Jonathan Kay of the Racing Post.
It was a second Category One win in just over two months for the Chris Crampton, Harry Crapper, David Priestley and Nigel Thomas-owned winner after his RPGTV East Anglian Derby victory at Yarmouth in September and was never really in doubt.
Virtually all the talk beforehand had centred on the trap five draw of favourite Tenpin, who ultimately drifted to 5-6, but the way that David Mullinsβ charge started it would not really have mattered where he was berthed with a very slow break immediately having him on the back foot.
Conversely, Kilara Lion rocketed out of trap two and into a lead that was never threatened as he was soon well clear.
Ballynabee Lucky turned second and Tenpin, who had bumped with Darth Vader after pacing up following that bad start, briefly showed in third but it was ultimately Lenson Whelan who would stay on for the silver medal, albeit six and a half lengths behind the 28.90sec (-40) winner.
Ballynabee Lucky was a short-head back in third and Tenpin another half length away fourth having finally secured his favoured rails slot just after halfway.
Janssens also took both heats of a 642m competition courtesy of View King (40.80sec) and Nightingale Don (40.34sec).
