We had a real money-spinner on the Oldham track he was called 'BUNTER' he never let us down when the money was on.
After he had done the rounds on the flaps he ended up on the ZOO with our old friend Pat McCombe.
BALLINDERRY GEM was his NGRC racing name he won a few over the standard trip but his claim to fame was the night he was in a hurdle handicap sat off the front getting 7 metres start. He was in the main a skin dog and of course he won very very easy and caused a bit of a stir in doing so.
HAPPY DAYS....

Another greyhound NGRC name was RICKIES FLIGHT he failed to grade on at Belle Vue so his owner Mr Frank Greenwood asked us if we would take him on the flaps to see if he could win a race or two.
He ran at Oldham called 'OUR HARRY' and at Bolton at Westhoughton he ran under 'NERVO'
He was a very nervous greyhound in fact one night when he had won at Bolton he ended up in the betting ring and after 10 or 15 mins we caught up with him.
When Bolton went under NGRC rules he was one of the first to run there under his stud book name.
We ended up buying him of Mr Greenwood for Ā£32.50p before he ran one night at Bolton and you guessed he only went and won for us. He was with us until he was 12 years old he had no nerves when he was with us at home in fact he was that good he even let us pull a few of his worn out teeth out near the end...

Iām told the greatest ever dog to grace the flaps was springwood Mickey is this true ? Without doubt Paul 'Mickey' was a flying machine.
His owner Eric was also a great bloke...
The best person to ask is the now Belle Vue trainer Terri Leech she was very good friends with Eric back then.

I recall at Oldham in the early 1970's were a dog would race twice in a meeting. Earlier races were heats, with the final run on the last race, all having been handicapped on the heat winning times earlier. Usually the slower dog would win these events due them having rested longer than the later heat winners. I still have the yellow racecards to prove it.

what I find with this thread is that those who lived through the flapping days really enjoyed the freedom it gave you. and though the gbgb is higher class there was nothing like the flapping days. and it could still make a return.

No rushing about no pressure and most certainly that thing young people call 'STRESS' these days was never heard of.
I use to enjoy my weekly trips to Blackpool and many of time in the summer after the dogs had run we would take them in to the sea to cool off.
