Can remember taking a dog in for Ian Whiston a couple of times the last of which involved a lead collar. After weighing the dog in I changed collars in the kennel and went in the bar with the collar in my lopsided coat pocket. After about 10 minutes a stranger approached me asking me if "I was the bloke with the lead collar ?". I gave it to him and backed the dog he brought in as well as "mine".
Both dogs won well !
Remember some great tales about Norman Taylor whose sister Molly was diminutive. I went in the bar one night telling Molly that Norman had just bought a dog "round the back" and she asked how big it was. When I said it's about 75lb she said "Oh no it'll pull me all over the place !".
One night I disagreed with Norman regarding whether a sprinter or stayer was better off the front in handicaps.
He insisted stayers were better as they don't start running till the third bend and "Oo's half road there already !".

some of our dogs names at oldham. shy talk.shy toff. shy tot..also hoof hearted. but they made us change it to vimto.because i sold the cafe vimto real name broyden music.bred by Ernie woods.it started winning loads of races so he offered to buy it back.he said he sold us the wrong dog.it was kenneled at bammies old kennels in Rochdale. we also had a dog on blackpool called folk singer.it was in billy grasses name.the guy who sent it phil smith from dublin.flew over to back it.everytime chalk went on the board he backed it.he had had many classic winners with matt o donnel.they had taken a huge sum of the bookies.he gave us the dog and a grand, and the chap who took it on billy from birch got £500. the best track to earn on was Blackpool.for not the top dogs that was bolton, but blackpool suited me cause i had a lot of dogs of matt.ex derby dogs three yrs old.some could fly.evan had one round bv but perfume pete a pal of pughies started to offer three grand so they dried up.
