I remember Toddy winning the Bolton Derby with a fawn wide running bitch called Pacey , a proper class bitch . The following year he entered about half a dozen dogs in the Derby and got the same girl to take them all in , and parade them , only the fawn bitch drew trap 2 ? She was dually backed off the boards only this time ran down the field in 4th or 5th ? In the next heat Harold Hall a guy from Radcliffe near us had his bitch entered Long Lane who wasnβt really top heat class but was mysteriously seeded wide ?? She opened up at all kinds of prices 12βs & 10βs until Haroldβs little fawn bitch was hammered off every book ?.Needless to say it was Pacey and Toddy duped them all as in a flapping open you could call them anything at the beginning of competition .

jack and shep two mates were very good friends of mine for many years .he had a brindle dog I sold him it won the Bolton guineas it was called Clarina. we moved to Sheffield and it was good at Oldham but not Sheffield he did have a thing about post offices.and was one of the best creepers in his day.he borrowed my big van one night and pulled a post office wall down. sheps son played football so did his dad , and he still has dogs on bv now, shep is still alive but he's not well. and Frankie Mellor a good dog man always did jacks dogs. jack also robbed a local track mowed it and he did it cause his dog was in an open next day,he bought kennels at birch of billy graham, who took the dog on Blackpool for us, jacks grave is in agecroft, just near where I lived and I often passed it near the river Irwell yes I could write books on jack but things are best left unsaid. even though he's now dead..grhs
