there were loads of great characters years ago. another pal of mine RAY EVANS.STILL LIVES ON THE A580 EAST LANCS. THERE ARE THAT MANY TALES OF RAY I WOULDNT KNOW WHER TO START, he was the only man I went to the dogs in a roller with straw on the back seats to let the dogs lie down. we wnt to a farm on the moss for a rabbit , the guy said how many you want we finished up with 160 odd.and he had a brilliant dog, Nicola, won a lot at Bolton even the derby, though I think that was of someone who fetched it to Bolton to race. iv just rang him up for some more memories but he hasn't answered. goes early to bed these days..

DESPITE your note of rejection of [must be my remenicences], it's not a fault to have had a lot more experiences than most. and anyone of my reminiscences can be explained in full. and the dog you mentioned I wouldn't back a dodger twice. SO I had better not bother with any more tales.it's only these tales that. kept this thread alive

i remember ray evans whenever anything won well in an open especially the derby heats , he would greet the owner and dog as they walked off the track and make an offer for it before the dogs feet had even been washed .

I bought a dog in 19-79 for 90 guineas at shelbourne park turned out to be a world beater, he was probably best known at Bolton as cop lucky, he was the first dog to break 30 seconds on the old track when he won an open in 29-98. He ran on 15 different flapping tracks and won on 14 of them breaking 5 track records, he was a nervous dog who slept on my bed and we just clicked. He won the Welsh derby in forestfach as Marshall beating the winner of the consolation greyhound derby. I could tell you loads of stories but I would be on here all day.just a footnote the last race at Bolton in early 80s was £90 to the winner what would that equate to now. Great dog COP LUCKY back in the day..
Great to hear from you John.....

I remember a real decent greyhound at Salford it was called THE BLACK DOODIE he won plenty.
Also there was a dog that only had one eye I think he was called CASTLERAY JACK he won plenty of those handicaps off the front.
Another greyhound I liked was OVERMIST.
Very Happy Days Back Then.

as i was brought up around pendleton ,i was never away from salford albion as a kid , the dogs were kennelled up at the track and on a sunday me and a couple of mates used to get the princely sum of 50p for walking dogs around the centre of the track , i remember some of the popular dogs early seventies were hook and pole ,lizas red pride ,treheen ,super go go my personal favorite was mulgannons pride , jack estry was one of the trainers , he could usually be found at the bar .i was at the last meeting when i think sylvannias hope won the last race , it was only on the sat night at belle vue when alan moore (viaduct chief) showed me the pink final did i know salford albion had run its last race , a lot of people were devastated .
