Cushie Hi / Ignite / Be Jinks / The Black Doodie / Super Tramp / Sonora Ranger were dogs i followed back in the day at Salford Dogs.
Great litle track some really nice people Mr Fred and Mrs Doris Needham. Mr George Dickenson and Mr Phil Greenhalgh owned plenty of decent dogs and last but not least old Albert in the betting ring.
He loved the place i can hear him know shouting out when he chalked up 'COME ON LADS IT'S ONLY A BIT OF FUN' and his best one was just before a race started 'THERE GOING IN THE CUPBOARDS'
Also the way they used to put the straw down in the winter months it was woven into the track the only thing that would stop racing back then was the terrible fog.
It was without doubt a very sad day when the track closed.

A great thread. As well as Bolton and Westhoughton, my Dad and his mates used to run their dogs on Chester, Winsford and Chesterton. The game was full of characters and it was as much about knowing the habits of the owners as the ability of the dog. After Winsford closed i can remember being told Barry Derbyshire (handicapper) had found work as a security guard and thinking it was strange that someone who'd once been in a pivotal role could end up doing something so different. That said, both roles have similar goals in terms of trying to prevent jobs bring pulled.
