Remember Teddy Lord saying he could get a dog graded on Preston without a trial. Sure enough the dog was entered and appeared on the card giving 3 yards to top class dogs he'd be getting 3 off at Bolton. Needless to say that route was not pursued.
Also Frank Gillespie who went mysteriously grey after being "missing" for a few months and who invariably paid out at 6/4 when Teddy couldn't attend.

A great thread. As well as Bolton and Westhoughton, my Dad and his mates used to run their dogs on Chester, Winsford and Chesterton. The game was full of characters and it was as much about knowing the habits of the owners as the ability of the dog. After Winsford closed i can remember being told Barry Derbyshire (handicapper) had found work as a security guard and thinking it was strange that someone who'd once been in a pivotal role could end up doing something so different. That said, both roles have similar goals in terms of trying to prevent jobs bring pulled. 'marto' Your spot on Barry Derbyshire did end up at Cheshire Oaks.
We had plenty of winners at Winsford but the trouble was most of them were given red-lights
Chesterton track was a very lucky track for us back in the day it was a nice ride out never had big crowds on but a nice place.
One night we won a race with a decent bitch off Belle Vue only to find out afterwards the back marker we beat had won a major open race competition NGRC the week before for a very well known trainer Midlands trainer Mr Bertie Gaynor. His greyhound went off long odds on and we got paid out at 3/1
Use to see Darren Hampson and his brother Mark quite a lot at Chesterton Happy Days back then...
Chester was a tough track went a few times but only to watch never had a runner ourselves.

Anyone got memories of the old park rd st Helens track grass with sand on bends. Just clicked on link and it shows greyhound owner advertising 1982 St Helens Derby. We won it with a bitch off Bolton called fairfield Inn. Good old days

Chester was a great track. A sad day, like for many others, when it closed.

Can anyone remember this stadium? HANLEY GREYHOUND STADIUM (Sun Street) Origins The stadium was constructed and opened in 1928, in only the second year of oval track greyhound racing in the United Kingdom.[1] The stadium known as the Sun Street Stadium was located on the south side of Clough Street and the north side of Sun Street. It was built on top of an old pit known as Marl Pit (part of the Shelton Colliery).[2] The stadium was situated next door to the Dresden Works.[3] Opening Racing started on 31 March 1928 and took place three times a week. The racing was independent (unaffiliated to a governing body).[4] The independent racing lasted for 35 years.[5] Speedway Main article: Stoke Potters Speedway was an integral part of the stadium and a team known as the Hanley Potters first raced at the stadium.[6] Closure The final meeting took place on 18 October 1963 after being sold to a garage business.[4] The site today is a business park.
