Soon clear, easily' could be abbreviated to wow SHALL we have a boring debate about the going, or stick to what was exciting?I can't help myself - give me my anorak now! Wimbledon officially describe the going as 0.10sec slow, until the track was watered by bowser after the eighth race, then it's deemed to be 0.20sec slow. I can see why the assessment has been made, the times suddenly slowed - but heats 22, 23 and 24 could also be marked as bunched races or (BR). BR has been used officially at some tracks and, in my view, all three times are meaningless. Heat 25 should give more of a clue, yet it's only 28.91sec for a dog who raced clear early (down 0.8 in weight too, so I hope Martin White won a few quid out of it!). However, Bittles Bar last raced in November, perhaps he blew up? We're then left looking at the last heat of the night and Shaneboy Spencer rockets out to a 4.66sec sectional, the fastest of the round, and a 28.67sec time, the fastest of the night. I'd be more inclined to put that as normal, and maybe keep the early races 0.10sec slow. This is the beauty of handicapping. You, the punter, can form your own opinion, study the replays on RPGTV . . . @nowso2 did a cracking job via Twitter in publishing You Tube recordings race by race . . . and then decide your own going allowance. You might think it faster/slower on differing parts of the track, and end up varying allowances within a race. The point is, you can do what you like, it's part of the joy of it. And what excited me Saturday? I can't help it, I just love Farloe Barracuda. You knew it was hopeless, he would get caught, but golly. He almost lasted out, and I think he might be even sharper next time. Other ones I marked as potential improvers were: Holdem Spy (loves the track), Droopys Pride (what a bend runner), Longwood Warrior (looked short of a run), Money Talks (take no notice of the defeat, it's all good experience) and Holborn Junior (looked class). That's half a dozen, but you could pick another ten or so too from Saturday alone. This year's William Hill Derby is ferociously competitive, and the draw is a massive factor. And if I was to have a bet now? It would have to be Ballymac Vic. Let's leave times to one side, the manner he won on Friday, and by eight and a half lengths, deserves a 'wow'. Now that's yet to be officially used! Hills bet: 8 Ballymac Eske, Ballymac Vic, 10 Kereight King, 14 Droopys Jet, 20 Shaneboy Alley, 25 bar. There's just 96 left, the draw is 1pm Sunday and I will be bashing it in live again on racingpost.com.

Eden Star: dodged a bullet when avoiding a hot final heat 16
FRIDAY's second round of the William Hill Derby (see draw on separate file) starts with Irish star Tyrur Sugar Ray getting a perfect slot in trap one. He faces Pat Rosney's heat winner Newinn Rocket and a reseeded Farloe Calvin, who now carries the middle tag for Owen McKenna. Ballymac Vic, visually the most impressive first round winner, appears in heat three, and he will be long odds-on to follow up. Ireland's Kereight King also looks nailed on to progress with trap one in Friday's heat 5. Graham Box, trained of Bouncy Bocko, watched Sunday's draw and was pleased with trap six in heat 6. "I'll take that, and I'm confident he will qualify." Farloe Barracuda will set a hot pace from red here. Droopys Jet appears in heat 8 where trap three is not ideal, but he looks to have the pace to race clear early. Saturday sees long time ante post favourite Ballymac Eske reappear in heat 10, where he has trap one. The third round beckons. The hottest heat of the lot comes right at the end with heat 16 where five first round heat winners clash. The guarding rules helped Team Draper here as they had two runners left before heat 15 could be completed and it meant runners had to be drawn for until one of their pair appeared. Eventually Eden Star emerged - which means he avoids the trappy heat 16. Of course, it could also have worked the other way round. The second round will be shown live on RPGTV. Pistol can fire out of the traps and land final BY JONATHAN KAY PISTOL JACK is entitled to have learned from his look round in the heats last week and David Pruhs’s charge can prove the point by taking the final of the Stadium Bookmakers Standard over 480m at Nottingham tonight (9.22, live on SIS). The selection led until moving wide at the second bend seven days ago and ultimately went down by just over two lengths to fastest-of-round Confident Shea, who was making an impressive British debut. He clearly has to be respected, but there could be a speed battle on the inside whereas Pistol Jack looks good to lead outside and could get the run of the race from the front. Green light for Alley, award for Spencer BY RICHARD BIRCH SHANEBOY ALLEY was on Monday given a clean bill of health by trainer Rab McNair, and will take his place in heat 13 of the £150,000 William Hill Derby second round on Saturday. Connections were given a major scare when Shaneboy Alley was knocked over by Fridays Shane ten strides after landing his opening-night heat last Friday in impressive all-the-way fashion. However, after being checked over at the weekend, the son of Ballymac Maeve has been given the go-ahead to take his chance against Money Talks, Knockglass Billy, Fire Height Spec, Holborn Junior and Young Golden in a fiercely competitive qualifier. McNair said: "Shaneboy Alley seems fine, and will be ready for Saturday. We've worked on him, and given him a real good soaking in the jacuzzi. I'm really pleased with his physical condition, but we won't know for sure whether Friday's incident has affected his confidence until Saturday." He added: "It looks a real hot heat, but we've got trap six and I'm delighted we're on the second night to give us an extra day to prepare him. I said before he ran last week that he wouldn't be properly fit until the third round. He's been specifically trained that way." *The McNairs Shaneboy Spencer was awarded the Performance of the Round award on RPGTV Sunday night, following his blistering run in the final heat. The dog reappears again in Saturday's last heat. The presentation will be made to the connections before racing on Saturday. ----------------------------------- Findlay eyes Dorando as Cache steps up in style BY JONATHAN KAY FREEDOM CACHE has the William Hill Dorando Marathon at Wimbledon on Derby final night in his sights after blowing away his three rivals to land the £1,000 Himalayan Climber Marathon over 859m at Coventry on Sunday. Kelly Findlay’s dog had been comfortably fastest in the heats seven days earlier but was still easy to back at 2-1 as Aayamzabella (4-6F) dominated the market and the favourite went on early as many had predicted. However, Freedom Cache was quickly on her case and powered past with just under a lap to go before proceeding to draw right away for an eight and a half lengths victory in 54.11sec (normal). “To be honest, I wasn’t sure he’d definitely stay when we entered him for the competition,” said Findlay of the Alan Wickenden-owned dog yesterday, “but I said to Alan that we had nothing to lose and might as well give it a go." Romford final on RPGTV Friday Wimbledon show BY JIM CREMIN
Droopys Xavier, trap 1 in Romford's final on Friday
BALMI BLUE was the fastest of Romford's heat winners on Monday for the Douglas Tyler Summer Cup over 575m when blasting clear to an easy victory for David Mullins, clocking 35.48sec. The other heats were won by Westmead Diva (35.80sec) and Airforce Roger (35.96sec). Mullins has two representatives through to the £750 decider, his Bonamassa Buddy taking second to Airforce Roger. Draw for Friday's final 1 Droopys Xavier 2 Head Iton Tom 3 Airforce Roger 4 Westmead Diva 5 Bonamassa Buddy (m) 6 Balmi Blue (w) Romford shares the RPGTV stage with the second round heats 1-8 for the William Hill Derby from Wimbledon. Heat 9-16 are Saturday. -------------------------------- Lister's Blade can cut a dash on Sheffield Bags BY JONATHAN KAY BUCKS BLADE did not make the first bend when beaten behind Planning at Coventry last time. However, he should do so in Sheffield's 8.58 over 480m tonight (live on SIS) and Charlie Lister's dog will be tough to beat if that is the case. Planning franked that latest form with another victory at Coventry on Sunday and Bucks Blade probably only needs a reasonable break from trap one to the be able to hold his pitch on the inside before opening up along the back stretch. Sparta Brod is a threat although trap four gives him little or no margin for error. Lionhearted Andy reverts to sprinting in the 8.13 over 280m and it could signal a returning to winning ways for Tony McKenna's charge. Trap three is an unfamiliar draw for the wide seed but it will be academic if he starts as he can and he is fancied to take control by the first bend. Open Check nap Lionhearted Andy 8.13 Sheffield

Boher the bet to call the shots in RPGTV final
BY JONATHAN KAY
BOHER CHIEFTAIN has won three from five this year since returning from a lay-off and Charlie Lister’s dog appeals as the value to reverse heat form with Many Are Called in the £1,000 final of the Mutual Friend 450 final at Coventry tonight (9.32, live on Racing Post Greyhound TV).Many Are Called did not put a foot wrong in the heats a week ago and was always in control as he beat Boher Chieftain by more than three lengths in a new record of 27.02sec for the recently-introduced distance, but the key time could be the 3.40sec sectional he clocked as it is identical to that of fellow heat winner Son Of Delboy who is on his immediate inside this evening. Admittedly Boher Chieftain has a potential hazard of his own to clear in the shape of Sids Ninja, but the Lister dog can trap better than last week as witnessed by the manner in which he accounted for classy Lil Risky in a sprint here two Sundays ago. Trap six may also help Boher Chieftain when it comes to flashing out and he looks capable of making the bend in front and capitalising on any scrimmaging inside between the heat winners. Coventry also has three heats of the Modest Newdown Puppy Cup over 485m with the suggestions being Carol Weatherall’s Holdem Tight (8.10), David Mullins’s Brookside Ace (8.58) and Phil Ward’s Big Thinking (9.48). Open Check nap Boher Chieftain 9.32 Coventry -----------------------------
Tight ready to take hold of Coventry open BY JONATHAN KAY 3 HOLDEM TIGHT made an eyecatching debut in defeat over 450m at the track in April and Carol Weatherall's dog can shrug off a subsequent absence to take the 8.10 over 485m at Coventry tonight.
Two from two in Ireland, he looked set to make a winning British bow only to get his challenge wrong between the last two bends but has returned to the fray with decent 263m and 485m trials and makes plenty of appeal with further improvement likely.
Johnnys Boy has the form in the book, as to a lesser extent does Blonde Tango, but Holdem Tight is not out of place in this company even with a speedy rival on his inside in the shape of Milford.
The David Mullins-trained BROOKSIDE ACE is dropping in class when he returns to puppy company for the 8.58 and it will be disappointing if he cannot make the most of the opportunity even allowing for the fact he lacks previous course knowledge.
Phil Ward's THINKING BIG allowed the useful Calzaghe Jack first run in a 450m puppy final last month and was always going to struggle as a result. He should be suited by the step up to 485m at 9.48.
Feature event of the evening is Coventry's Mutual Friend 450 final at 9.32 in which new track record holder Many Are Called will be a popular choice. However, he could have his work cut out clearing fast-up Son Of Delboy and it would not be the biggest surprise in the world were Charlie Lister's BOHER CHIEFTAIN to reverse last week's heat form.
Hills are betting on the Flying Four and go: 9-4 no winners, evens one winner, 5-2 two winners, 12-1 three winners and 150-1 four winners.
Flying four recommendations:
Holdem Tight 8.10 Coventry Brookside Ace 8.58 Coventry Boher Chieftain 9.32 Coventry Thinking Big 9.48 Coventy

Afew Dollarsmore worth the money at Monmore
By JONATHAN KAY Don't miss Jonathan Kay's A-Z run-down of every runner remaining in the William Hill Derby - in today's Racing Post. Also John McCririck's view of the premier Classic. AFEW DOLLARSMORE might not have had entirely honourable intentions when short-headed by Aghaburren Paddy after a late coming together in the heats a week ago but Chris Allsopp’s dog can redeem himself when it really matters by taking the Ladbrokes.com 630 final at Monmore tonight (8.42, live on Racing Post Greyhound TV). The inside draw can be a real advantage over this distance which features a short run to the bend and the selection is capable of turning in the slipstream of speedy heat winning duo Aghaburren Paddy and Imperial Boy before making a big move off the second bend. Clearly he will need to show last week’s episode, when he was marked awkward, was a one-off but he is entitled the chance to show that it was and he should prove too strong, especially if the front-runners take each other on at the head of affairs. At Hove (also on RPGTV), Your A Champ should record yet another course and distance success by taking the 8.18 over 285m. Ken Tester’s bitch was beaten by kennelmate Ardbeg Brandon on her return from an absence two weeks ago when bidding for a 12th win in a row, but reversed that form last Thursday when trapping in front and it should be straightforward once again. Elsewhere, Henlow has five opens with Kelly Findlay’s Bush Standard appealing from the inside draw in the 9.05. Full Open Check preview in today's Racing Post

800-1 nightmare for bookies with Flying 4? BY JONATHAN KAY HOLLYOAK OLIVER was unlucky to be eliminated from the Derby last weekend and Ray Butler’s dog may well have been underestimated when he goes in Hove’s finale over 515m tonight. He could hardly face a more in-form rival than Tibetan Skies, but he is capable of getting first run on him and, given he was an excellent second in the Sussex Puppy Trophy final here last backend, really does not warrant quotes as big as they are this morning. Another early Derby casualty, ZOOS CAPRICE, appeals in a competitive 515m bitches’ open at 9.24 where Richard Rees’s bitch has a peach of a draw in six outside five railers. The lack of previous course knowledge is clearly a concern but the compensation comes in the price and she can avoid scrimmaging on her inner to turn handy. She should certainly find things happening a lot less rapidly here than when in against Jolly Bullseye in the Classic. SLIPPERRY PATCH could be said to have been marginally disappointing last week but losses incurred can prove only lent with Kev Hutton’s dog fancied from the inside draw in the 9.56 over 515m. Monmore’s contribution to the Flying Four is a 630m final at 8.42 in which the strong fancy is Chris Allsopp’s AFEW DOLLARSMORE for all that he may have thrown away a winning opportunity in the heats a week ago. Drawn for a clear run on the inside early, he will benefit from a speed battle up front which looks on the cards between heat winners Aghaburren Paddy and Imperial Boy. Hills are betting on the Flying Four and go: 7-4 no winners, 8-11 one winner, 7-2 two winners, 25-1 three winners and 800-1 four winners. Flying 4:
Afew Dollarsmore 8.42 Monmore
Zoos Caprice 9.24 Hove
Slippery Patch 9.56 Hove
Hollyoak Oliver 10.26 Hove

Second round of the Derby on RPGTV tonight
BY RACING POST
RACING Post Greyhound TV goes on air from 7.15pm (Sky channel 212, Freesat 401 and streamed free at www.racingpost.com/greyhounds/tv.sd plus partner websites) with the eight second round heats of the William Hill Derby from Wimbledon (13-race card) complemented by an all-open 13-race card from Romford.
Irish raiders Ballymac Vic, who is challenging Ballymac Eske for outright Derby favouritism, Droopys Jet, Kereight King and Tyrur Sugar Ray are amongst the big names in action at Wimbledon where Darrell Williams will be on hand to report live from the track throughout the evening.
Bookmakers have priced all eight Derby heats up but the RPGTV Flying Four concentrates on Romford beginning with the feature event there, the Doug Tyler Summer Cup final over 575m at 9.24. Other Flying Four races are the 9.56, 10.11 and 10.26 and these have also been priced up early by bookmaker partners.
Wimbledon's heats 9-16 will be part of Saturday's live show.
Farloe Trojan looks the one to back in Jack clash OPEN CHECK by JONATHAN KAY THE second round of the William Hill Greyhound Derby can be fraught with danger for punters – there were five odds-on favourites beaten at this stage last year – so it may pay to think out of the box when the £150,000 Classic resumes over 480m at Wimbledon tonight (live on Racing Post Greyhound TV).That even applies to heat three at 8.26 despite the brilliance of Ballymac Vic a week ago. Liam Dowling’s dog is clearly one of the best in the event and could well turn this into another procession but the Martin White-trained Bittles Bar impressed in his own way when making a successful return to action and has scope for improvement on that effort so there is a value case to be made for him in the hope the odds-on favourite gets held up.However, the best bet of the night looks to come a heat earlier at 8.10 where Craig Dawson’s Farloe Trojan makes maximum appeal. He was clearly unlucky behind Stonepark Crash in round one having deservedly beaten exciting prospect Calzaghe Davy at Shawfeld on Scottish Derby final night and he just looks far too big a price compared to admittedly could-be-anything Sidaz Jack. For the full Open Check view of the Derby second round, see today's Racing Post, which also features columns from Charlie Lister and Mark Wallis Open Check nap Farloe Trojan 8.10 Wimbledon
