Farloe Warhawk: on course for the Racing Post Juvenile Championship Eske and Warhawk both trial well at Sheffield BALLYMAC ESKE and Farloe Warhawk both recorded 16.02sec (normal) in 280m sprint trials at Sheffield yesterday as the Barrie Draper-trained duo continue to build towards the Racing Post Juvenile Championship at Wimbledon on March 19.
It was a second successive 16.02sec spin for Farloe Warhawk following on from seven days earlier, while Ballymac Eske improved 30 spots on the time he had recorded on that occasion.
Fastest of the session yesterday, however, was the Elaine Parker-trained Droopys Pride, winner of last year’s Puppy Plate at the Sunderland Festival, who won his trial in 15.96sec.
And Droopys Pride could be keeping the Draper stars company as Parker yesterday threw his hat in the ring for an invitation to the £5,000 Juvenile, which will feature on the first Sky Sports broadcast under the new SIS-production arrangement.
“It was a great trial, especially with it being his first of the year and we’ll definitely be putting him forward,” she said. “He won that puppy competition at Sunderland and, at the time, I thought he might be a short runner but he got stronger and stronger as the year went on and he’s a really good prospect.”
Draper’s recent intake Ballyard Buddy went quickest over the 500m course at Sheffield yesterday as he recorded 29.13sec in a solo workout.

Westmead Melanie: won a thrilling 2012 William Hill Springbok final A cut foot makes Chili doubtful for Springbok
FIRE FOOD CHILI, as short as 10-1 for the William Hill Springbok, faces a race against time to make the novice hurdlers’ championship starting on March 9 after a cut foot forced his withdrawal from a trial stakes at Wimbledon tomorrow.
“I’d gone to trials this morning at Yarmouth,” explained trainer Jim Daly yesterday, “and got a phone call to say he’d cut his foot on an outside toe.
“Our local vet has cleaned it up and it’s not thought to be serious, but I’d just be hopeful rather than confident that it heals in time for him to have a sprint trial to get him back [requalified] for the Springbok.”
The November 2009 dog has twice run against Springbok favourite Droopys Lorenzo this year, on the second occasion giving him a good race at Romford.
Most recently, he was just shaded by Rockview Royal in a trial stakes at Wimbledon last weekend. Daly has until the closing date of the £5,000 competition on March 6 to requalify Fire Food Chili.
Hills:
7-4 Droopys Lorenzo, 9-2 Mash Mad Snowy, 5 Lenson Johnny, 10 Fire Food Chili, 14 Daddy Knowsbest, Green Amigo, Westmead Meteor, 16 Rockview Royal, 20 Stellars Blue, 25 Aero Lillie, Coolavanny Shine, Suirview Ranger, Westmead Athena, 33 bar
(e/w 1/4 1,2,3,4).

Wednesday saw an interesting trial session at Wimbledon on going given as -10 on ground seeming to affect the hurdlers more than that as evidenced by former Grand National winner, Victoria Falls, only recording 30.30 (second fastest of the session).
The fastest time - 29.88 - came in the second trial which saw 14/1 joint 5th favourites Westmead Meteor and Green Amigo take on 66/1 shot Lonely Pilgrim. A 5.09 best sectional of the day saw Meteor chop off the other two at the bend and, by allegedly jumping and running best of the three, record a ten and a half length victory over Pat Rosney's irish raider, with Barry O'Sullivan's Pigrim only a further three parts of a length behind Amigo.
Was that trial just one of those things, or are the current ante post prices an example of the ricks that can appear in pricing up competitions like this?

I know I'm biased but I really think 14/1 looks a big price for Meteor in the ante-post market. That makes him joint 6th favourite with a dog he beat 10.5 lengths in a trial, and a dog he beat 2.5 lengths last night, with the tenth favourite a length further back still.
A 30.26 (N) trial at Coventry last night, hitting hurdles, seems in no way to endorse Droopys Lorenzo's right to be 7/4 ante-post favourite for the competition particularly given it's temperament, and considering that some of the other fancied dogs appear to have, shall we say, suspect hurdle technique, and an apparent dislike of Wimbledon then it might be a fascinating competition.
