we took two dogs up to the Scottish puppy cup at powder hall. Edinburgh .a dog called teddy ruxspin.who had a big name. however, he never run right because he had cancer. the other was cooleygorman gold.a5of bv. the newspaper talk was of a dog paddy Hancocks had .they had given £23000 for it but all they said was it traveled badly. when I saw it come out of his car it was like a lion. pulling him to the kennels. well, we won all heats and the final. with cooley Gormangold. The first time I ever notice savage again.he won .and Lynda Mullins put a jumper round over hurdles did a better time than ours in the final. the dog of ours finished up with lister. he did no good with it but it caused a whole; lot of discord. and I used to go to the sales with charlie I never bothered again with him.and we had had a good few dogs with him.we met about 5 /6 years ago at Doncaster sat on the same table .he acknowledged me but it was over/oh he beat us in the open with as swift dog lewis a decent dog at bv he got the quarter-finals of the ledger, wnt lame and was never the same again. in an earlier post slaneyside hare was mentioned.he bred some picture won the derby and mick Pomfrey was on the steps at bv trying to sell it,could have kicked myself after. but nobody knew mick. at the time I did buy a bitch of him freedom state .couldnt get it out of the six box at bv.so moved it to barry draper it won its first 8 opens including the bitches spring cup at mon more we had it together frank hackmon a lovely chap from black pool. longer post than I intended.sorry.

congratulations to everyone born in the 40s 50s 60s and early 0s. and are still with us. and to the youngsters see what you missed. firstly we survived mothers who smoked /and drank while they carried us and lived in houses made of asbestos. they took aspirin ate wrongly, raw egg products.loads of bacon. and processed meats tuna from a can,.and didn't get tested for diabetes or cervical cancer. then after that trauma, our baby cots were covered with bright coloured lead-based paints. we had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets. and when we rode our bikes.we had no helmets or shoes. not to mention the risks we took hitchhiking. as children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or airbags. we drank water from a garden hose and not from a bottle. take away food was limited to just fish and chips.no pizza shops mcdonalds.kfc etc. Even though all the shops closed at 6-00pm and didn't open on the weekends somehow we didn't starve to death. we shared soft drinks from bottles with four or five friends and no one actually died from this. we could collect old drink bottles and cash them in at the corner store to buy toffees gobstoppers, bubble gum etc, we ate cupcakes made with real butter white bread and soft drinks with loads of sugar in, but we weren't overweight because WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING. we would leave home in the morning and play all day,as long as we were back as the street lights came on. no one was able to reach us all day and we were ok. we would spend hours building our go-carts out of old prams and then ride them down hill and find out we had forgot the brakes. we built tree houses and dens and played in old river beds with matchbox cars. we did not have Playstations, Nintendo x boxes, no video games at all.or DVD films. no mobile phones no personal computers ,no internet or internet chat rooms. WE HAD FRIENDS AND WE WENT OUT AND FOUND THEM. we fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and there were no lawsuits from these accidents by the way i copied this it took longer than i thought. ONLY GIRLS HAD PIERCED EARS. we ate worms, and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms didn't live in us forever. YOU COULD ONLY BUY EASTER EGGS AND HOT CROSS BUNS AT EASTER TIME. we were given airguns and catapults for birthdays. we rode bikes or walked to a friend's house, knocked on the door, rang the bell, or just yelled for them. rugby and cricket had tryouts and not everybody made the team, those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointments.imagine that getting into a team was based on merit. OUR TEACHERS USED TO HIT US WITH CANES AND GYM SHOES AND BULLIES ALWAYS RULED THE PLAYGROUND. the idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. they actually sided with the law. our parents didn't invent stupid names for there kids like they do these days. WE HAD FREEDOM, FAILURE, SUCCESS AND RESPONSIBILITY AND AND IF YOUR ONE OF THEM, CONGRATULATIONS
WE LEARNED HOW TO DEAL WITH IT.ALL. You may want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our own good. and let them know how BRAVE their parents were.

Excellant post benny - I have a few odes along similar lines hidden away somewhere, just have a good chuckle when I occasionally stumble upon em when moving things around as one does, then remembering days of old. lol
If I get to stumble on any again in the near future - and, they don't clash too much with your post, I will tag onto your thread.
Thanks for the extra chuckle! As a rider - apologies if I missed it, but I didn't spot any mention of TV. Being a similar age to yourself, the very first TV that I ever got to watch was a small (i think) 12 to 14 inch B & W set when I was invited in by a pal who was trialing a BV Speedway at the time, Leslie Copas, sadly KIA on his bike following a racing accident at the track! I got to see the 1956 footy final between Newky and City!
Thanks for the memory jog....
