Tonight, Helen of Wigan has a three timer.
Race 1 Grade A8 Time 29.11
Auntie Nan, 4s to 7/2, led near the first bend despite missing the break and by the third had a good enough lead to ensure her fading at the finish had no major consequences. Jayjay Again, 9/4 to 2s, missed the break, turned in fourth place and then stayed on for second place.
Race 2 Grade A8 Time 29.19
Redley Rooster, 3s to 5/2, was badly hampered at the first bend following a slow start and finished fourth. Rosario Girl, 2s to 5/4, didn't show much to the bend where she was forced to check and she was back in sixth pace at the second following a further crowd there. She finished fifth.
Race 3 Grade A7 Time 28.77
Clonoulty Babe, 7/4 to 11/10, had a couple of rivals close to her entering the first bend but she used her draw to take a lead which proved a winning one.
Race 4 Grade A6 Time 28.88
Honeypot Lane, 5/4 to 4/5, missed the break and after racing up well to the bend checked wide and dropped back to fifth place. She ran on well to finish third. Grandads Jet, 6s to 5s, finished an every chance fourth after also missing the break.
Race 5 Grade A3 Time 28.07
Bandicoot Zebo, 4s to 7/2, made a hugely impressive debut here. He gave the quick starting black sheet a length and a half start and still comfortably led the bitch to the bend. The black sheet was always a fairly handy second and when her stamina came into play from the last bend so did Zebo's and, despite a slight crowd on the run in, he comfortably held off the challenge. Fionas Fantasy, 6/4 to 5/4, turned in third place and after a slight crowd between bends three and four stayed on for third place . Her fate was sealed once she failed to lead the black sheet. Noirs Blue, 8s to 6s, didn't show a lot to the bend and after a crowd at the bend and a collision at the third she finished last.
Race 6 Grade S3 Time 36.36
Grandads Beauty, 7/2 to 3s, trapped in front and made all. Grandads Radar, 5/2 to 6/4, turned in fourth place following a first bend bump. He made no real progress and finished fourth. Swift Hunter, 3s to 11/4, also suffered at the first bend and then again at the third and finished a well beaten fifth. Tyrur Rambler, 7s to 5s, turned in last place after running very wide at the second and then was bumped at the third bend before finishing last.
Race 7 Grade A4 Time 28.39
Swift Tobago, 3s to 7/4, took full advantage of an excellent draw to lead on the run up and add to her win tally. Tracey, 5s to 4s, started slowly, showed a bit of pace to the bend and turned in third place but held that position only as far as halfway and finished a well held fourth. Millroad Maggie was well backed late from 2s to 7/4, and finished fifth. She missed the break and was crowded at the second bend and is perhaps not suited by the black jacket. It also makes her bum look big.
Race 8 Grade A5 Time 28.78
Good support for Pennys Joe, 4s to 7/4, who was returning from a six month absence which given his previous antics was probably at a local canine borstal.
However, he showed impressive early pace here to lead on the run up and enjoy a good lead by the third bend. He ran out of puff and was passed on the run in before finishing fourth.
Race 9 Grade A6 Time 28.93
Aiming to Win, 9/4 to evens, showed the best early to the bend. Unfortunately he started slowly and as a consequence timed his arrival at said bend at the same time as other better starting rivals. Ouch! He finished last. Runslikeacullen, 4s to 11/4, also started slowly and became collateral damage at the first bend. He finished fourth. Tullymurry Heidi, 7/2 to 3s, was bumped back to fifth place at the bend before keeping on pluckily for third place.
Race 10 Grade A4 Time 28.70
Kersal Korbie, 7/2 to 9/4, missed the break and was badly crowded at the bend before finishing fifth.
Race 11 Grade A1 Time 27.87
Following the shock disqualification of former track star Rei Doms Evra, there have been two new Rei Dom dogs coming off the production line. They are named after two Manchester United players, as is the norm, this time Van Persie and Cantona, both of whom as footballers possess sublime footballing skills but also questionable temperaments. Why not call the dog Charlton or Sir Matt? Tonight Cantona made his debut and with an impressive Irish card was supported from 4s into 5/2 before drifting out to 7/2 at the off. As the dogs were being loaded the track Stewards rather wisely advised patrons not to stand too close to the track barrier. This dog might after be all be too well named.
Once the traps went up Cantona got a reality check as the favourite, Watch Dave, backed from 5/4 to 4/5, trapped a length and a half clear of the field and then proceeded to career round the track in impressive fashion and an impressive time. Cantona could only turn in fifth place and was hampered at the third bend when not making any progress. He finished last but once he settles down at the track he's sure to make his mark. Cruising Belle, 4s to 7/2, finished third after turning in that position.
