Today, another sweltering day at the BAGS. Big John has a three timer. The bowser went round before Race 7.
Race 2 Grade A3 Time 28.09 Somegametowin, backed at 3s, finished third progressing from fifth place at the second following a missed break and a first bend crowd. He never got close to the winner though who sprouted wings on the run up.
Race 3 Grade A5 Time 28.24 If the English cricket team had made short work of the Aussies this morning they could have been on Fancy Lady, 2s to 6/4, who was the easiest winner of the day after accelerating into the lead near the bend following a missed break. Upton Falcon, 4s to 7/2, raced up well after a poor start and held second place from the second bend to the run in. He finished third.
Race 4 Grade A3 Time 28.31 Jorjen Jak, 2s to 7/4, was checked on the run up by the stripes accelerating past. She took up second place until the last bend and finished third.
Race 5 Grade A1 Time 28.11 Aranock Solo, 3s to 9/4, held the inside at the bend and led but moved off the rails between bends one and two and this allowed the slow starting Tewmax Leejay, backed at 7/2, to run through on the rails and lead at the second bend. Solo turned second and ran game getting to within a sh of Leejay at the line.
Race 6 Grade A6 Time 28.83 Redstone Bo Dhu, 3s to 5/2, compensated for the slight crowding on the run up when missing the first bend crowding and turning third. He ran on to finish second. Derrane Slippy, 7/2 to 3s, didn't get the best of starts and didn't produce enough early to get into contention. He finished last following second and third bend crowding.
Race 7 Grade A2 Time 28.09 Jamestown Duke, 3s to 9/4, challenged from the second bend and led at the third bend winning comfortably.
Race 8 Grade A7 Time 28.92 Berkshire Gold, 7/2 to 3s, trapped well, turned second and led at the third bend. Could she improve her record to two wins from twenty two starts? The answer proved in the negative as she was passed close to the line by the strong running winner.
Race 9 Grade A6 Time 28.67 Nicoles Purse, 2s to 7/4, trapped best and made all.
Race 10 Grade A8 Time 29.26 Graces Dream, 5/2 to 7/4, and Longwood Houdini, 7/2 to 3s, both missed the break and the former gave the latter a nudge at the bend before she turned third dog with Houdini fourth. Dream improved at the third and led at the fourth bend until Houdini produced the better finish to relegate Dream to second.
Race 11 Grade A4 Time 28.62 Bower Osprey, 3s to 5/2, made a poor start before running into serious trouble between bends one and two. He did manage to just take second place at the second until the third and was well beaten when crowded at the last bend. He finished last.
