Tonight, cold again. The barbarian hordes return to the track
.
Race 1 Grade A8 Time 29.15
Woodhall Jewel, backed at 7/4, trapped best and held Auntie Nan, 5/2 to 2s, at the bend. Once she led the race was over and Jewel won decisively with Nan finishing fourth.
Race 2 Grade A9 Time 29.55
A huge punt on the veteran Jayjay Again, 8s to 6/4!
Around twelve weeks out of season she ran much better trapping best and turning a handy second. Unfortunately she was struck into at the second and the leader at the time raced clear at the third bend. Jayjay kept on well for second and the winner's time suggests she was unlucky.
Race 3 Grade A6 Time 29.47
Berkshire Gold, 6/4 to 11/8, was in fourth place at the bend following a slow start and was badly hampered by the faller at the second who got up and ran round. Gold finished fifth. Grandads Sabre, 7s to 5s, also started slowly and was involved in the melee at the second before finishing second in a race run in a poor time.
Race 4 Grade A7 Time 28.91
Bowtime Roz, 7/4 to 11/10, led between bends one and two before winning rather easily.
Race 5 Grade A2 Time 28.55
Late money for Graigues Rolla, 6s to 5s, who ran well to get up on the line. He railed well at the bend and turned third after missing the bump finding himself with a bit to do he but did it in impressive fashion.
Race 6 Grade S4 Time 36.94
Dacent Amy, backed at 5/2, found herself in a race with rivals rather ponderous in the early pace department and took advantage leading at the second bend. She held on well to the line. Grandads Jet, 2s to 6/4, ran round with not much urgency and he finished fourth. The check at the second and third were academic.
Race 7 Grade A4 Time 28.48
Golden Orchid, 5/4 to 11/10, returned to the track fit and well and produced his best performance to date when winning this. There is no doubt that the race was run to suit him after he got a decent break. Bodell Lucky, 8s to 7s, had trapped fast and led whilst Orchid's other rivals all started slowly and this allowed the favourite to turn second. He ran on well to lead off the fourth bend and then all the way round to the sough. Lucky finished third.
Race 8 Grade S3 Time 36.76
Karma Breeze, 5/4 to evens, turned second dog and raced up the inside to lead at the third bend before quickening clear.
Race 9 Grade A5 Time 28.62
The oddsonfavouritefest of the weekend continued with Ballymacdoe Spot, evens to 4/6, winning well. He turned second dog to the quick starting Whistle Mouse, backed at 4s, before showing good pace to the third, leading between bends three and four and then running on. The dog has really come to hand now and is seeing out the trip better. Mouse finished third.
Race 10 Grade A4 Time 28.72
Aero Apollo, 6/4 to 8/11, gave Hi Power Lynn, 10s to 8s, a length at traps but used his inside draw to lead the bend, crowding Lynn in the process (nice tactics Apollo
. Approaching the third bend the orange sheet raced up well to pose a possible threat to Apollo but the latter responded and increased the daylight between the two dogs on the run in seeing out the trip well. Lynn finished third.
Race 11 Grade A3 Time 28.60
Jack Relax, 3s to 9/4, managed to turn in third place following a slow start but found himself with quite a bit to do behind a bitch on the upgrade. Jack ran on but found on this occasion he had too much to do and settled for runner up spot.
