TIME FOR CHANGES DOWN AT THE ZOO....
THANK GOD January has been and gone and shortly February will follow suit, over the years down at the ZOO the first couple of
months have always been dead ducks and in the main attracted low attendances.
What has made a big differance this time around was the introduction of the Sunday BAGS meeting, but of course that also brought with it the loss of the Thursday evenings slot.
I'm hoping that sometime in late March/April the local GRA management will give great consideration into bringing back another weekly meeting, in my opinion Tuesday evening would be ideal and if this did happen then I would like to see weekly minor open races at these fixtures along the lines of what they do over at the Owlerton Stadium.
Also later this year there is a big possibility that the RACING POST TV CHANNEL will be going 5 or even 6 nights a week.
If this did come about then a Tuesday evening slot from Belle Vue would be ideal for both parties.
When you look at the current schedule at Belle Vue the GRA are doing OK with two BAGS meetings giving them close on 1 millon per annum, along with the well attended Friday and the very popular Saturday night meetings.
But you have to take into account not many patrons attend the BAGS meetings so of course not much money in generated at these fixtures.
So in my eyes to introduce a Tuesday meeting would benefit the management as regards paying customers coming through the turnstile once again..
SO if my idea got the 'Green Light' then this is how things would work over the week.
SUNDAY MORNING BAGS (12)
TUESDAY EVENING MEETING (10/12) TO INCLUDE WEEKLY MINOR OPENS
WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON BAGS (14)
THURSDAY - TRIAL SESSION
FRIDAY EVENING MEETING (13) TO INCLUDE OPEN RACE COMPS DURING THE YEAR.
SATURDAY EVENING MEETING (13)
NOW THEN of course with an extra meeting of coiurse it would mean a big racing strength!
There would be no need to put any extra strain on to the present 16 contract trainers currently employed by the GRA, all that would be need is to invite a few more smaller trainers on board.
There is no shortage of GBGB trainers waiting to be given the nod by Mr Rowe and there is several North West trainers
who are at tis time supplying greyhounds down at Perry Barr who would jump at the chance to come on to the ZOO.
Anyway that's my take on the present situation down at the ZOO.. WILL IT HAPPEN?
WELL IT'S OVER TO YOU Mr HARDY.....
